FarmDam Biodiversity Reveal Night

16th July 2019
Environmental DNA results are in!

Every creature leaves traces of their DNA in their surrounding aquatic or terrestrial environment, through skin cells, hair, and other bodily secretions. This is environmental DNA (eDNA).

30 locals have been involved in a study to find wildlife in farm dams around Jindivick & Neerim District. 16 dams have been sampled for eDNA. Join us at the Reveal Night to learn about:

  • What we got up to in the project
  • What wildlife we found
  • What you can do to ensure your farm dam plays an important role to support biodiversity, while still being a productive asset for your property.

Have you recently been seeing more rabbits in Jindivick than in the past? The rabbit seems to be making a comeback in the area. As a result a group of locals met together last year & formed a rabbit control group. The Jindivick Landcare Group supports this group, and to help raise the group’s profile & action plan, we will be talking all things rabbit!

Tyson Dennis from Baw Baw Shire & Dom Bromilow from ‘Deepergreen’ will both be presenting & we hope that a coordinated approach can be established for rabbit control in Jindivick!

We may have some people from a rabbit control group in Drouin talk about their experiences in controlling rabbits also.

Everyone welcome (Please bring a plate of supper)

Tarago Catchment Bus Tour

Meet at Neerim South Rec Reserve carpark at 9:45am
The Tarago Catchment Healthy Farms Program is running a Bus trip/Field day focusing on catchment management around the Tarago Reservoir.

We will travel in the bus to the top of the Tarago Reservoir catchment (perhaps the original Bunyip or Pederson Weir), talk about the history of the weir and reservoir and drive around the edge of the reservoir on the limited access road. We will view some ‘Tarago Healthy Farms’ projects on local farms and farmers still talk about the benefits of the program to their property.

Other stops could include the Melbourne Water Treatment Plant at Drouin West.

There will be strong interest in this day & ONLY 24 seats are available on a first in best dressed basis! (Landholders in the Neerim District will receive priority).

If you would like to attend, then please RSVP to;
Terry McPhee on 0427 496 649 or
Peter Ronalds at peter@wpcln.org.au ASAP!
